Anya and Mariya are Ukrainian teenage sisters living in Poland away from their family and friends. Eager to earn money, Anya pursues job offers from anonymous employers on marketplace platforms. When an offer seems too good to be true, her sister starts asking questions. Shouldn’t she know about a company before going to a strange location? Shouldn’t she have more information than a mobile number? The sisters’ risky situation highlights a problem that our research team identified among Ukrainian teenagers in Poland during focus group studies in summer 2025. The possibility–especially for youth–of exploitation, abuse and even trafficking is a real risk. Learn about the red flags of risky job offers, and what you can do to know more about an employer before responding to an online offer.
